Great place for families, world class location. Rooms need upgrades but if you're spending a lot of time in the room you're doing Door County wrong

My fiancé and I were just here for the Memorial Day weekend. This place is definitely unique. We had a really enjoyable time and the inn staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room could have used an upgrade, it was almost too old-fashioned looking to be considered "charming". However it was clean and the bed was comfy. Luckily the bathroom appeared to have been recently upgraded so that was nice. There is a huge deck attached to the lobby that opens up to the most beautiful views of the lake, but it would have been more enjoyable if the paint wasn't chipping and I was wishing they had some big rocking chairs to sit on. We had breakfast at the Hof restaurant at the inn and it was delicious. Overall, it was a decent place for an affordable weekend getaway!

What decade is it? This place needs an interior decorator really bad. One room has a flat screen T.V. and another with12" from 1970. No air conditioning except in your room. Overpriced food with small portions. I have to admit it does have a cool location. Right on the lake next to a public beach. I was here for a wedding and stayed two nights. I have a large family and we are Irish. So, imagine what the bar was like the first night. They thought we were to rowdy so they purposely closed the bar early the next night so we wouldn't stop in again and stay all night. What? Who doesn't want to make some money at their bar. We didn't disturb anybody. This place is a little confusing to me and needs a makeover really bad. $325 for two nights in a place that looks like "nobody puts baby in a corner" needs to rethink about pricing and service as well as decorating. I don't think I'll be back.

This place is in a great location. It is right on the shores of Green Bay next to the Alpine Golf Course. (Yelpers beware that the map next to this review places the resort somewhere away from Egg Harbor; in other words the map sucks. Look at the Map-tastic map which shows the golf course in bright green.) The resort has a tremendous amount of character; I think that it was built in the 1920's. There a lot of little quirky aspects to the rooms, lobbies and grounds that make it an interesting to explore. And relax! Their restaurant is very spacious and has a nice view of the bay. I was a bit disappointed in the stuffed french toast I had for breakfast. My side of sausage was excellent. It certainly isn't elegant or ritzy but is quite charming. It provides great value for the money. It's a great base for your exploration of Door County. Don't come expecting Cable TV. They get 4-5 channels. In my room only 1 or 2 came in decently. They have nice porches to sit and read or talk or meditate. They have a narrow lawn separated from the Bay by an old stone wall. Very relaxing! If you just want a cup of coffee in the morning you have to go to the bar: 50cents/cup. This java is nothing to write home about. The Alpine provides good quality based on cost of the room.

The Alpine is the only place that I will ever stay in Door County. My family and I have been coming to the resort for close to 20 years and I don't trust the reviews of the one time guests for a second. Yes this resort is a bit more rustic than others, yes there are spiders- it's northern Wisconsin! But the amenities and the charm of the Alpine are exactly what I look for in a northern getaway and I wouldn't change a thing. Here's some pro tips- -If you are staying in the cabins bring your own shampoo. -Don't come here if you like to watch TV in your room all vacation there are only 4 channels- perfect for checking the weather and that's about it. -Not a good place for someone who has to be entertained left and right, this resort is perfect for sitting out on the pier or porch and playing cards, reading a book, or talking with friends. -A great resort to meet people, after spending a week around the Alpine you start to recognize some familiar faces and with evening activities and the resort bar I'm sure you will leave with a few new friends. I would also recommend this resort for large groups because there are lots of common areas for everyone to meetup in. I've seen weddings, family reunions, etc. -Order a Baumeister Orange soda and sip it while watching the sunset on the Alpine's sprawling front porch. The resort has several options for housing, including rooms in the lodge and small individual cottages of varying sizes. If you are traveling with a group I would strongly recommend the cottages, they are more private and also very cozy. The cottages are tiny, but have everything you need- a place to sleep and shower, and even a mini fridge to keep your beer cold. The resort also has a pool, golf course, game room, live music and events during the week, a beach, free bike rentals, tennis courts, shuffle board, playground, dock, restaurant, and bar. I personally would not recommend eating in the restaurant, the food is good and the view even better, but it is overpriced and there are a lot better restaurants in the area. The bar is fun if you are staying at the resort because it's easy to mosey on back to your room. Although the hours do vary depending on the crowd, and they like to keep the noise level to a minimum so as not to disturb guests that are staying in the lodge. As for the decor- the Alpine is built on lots of history, and they like to showcase that throughout the main floor of the lodge, with display cases of family and Door County memorabilia. The resort also has a mascot- Gus Der Schweitzerboob, a funny German character that they have cutouts of throughout the lodge, cheesy but cute. People who are looking for "updated decor" clearly do not understand the Alpine's rustic charm- the motto of the resort. What more can I say, I do not think the Alpine is for everyone but It's my favorite resort in Door County and I can not wait to return!

We have had great times at the Alpine Inn for the past 15years! On different occasions we've stayed in the lodge, cabins and in most recent years the big house on the south bay. The veranda on the lodge is most relaxing! It is the best resemblance of old time wisconsin resorting! Shuffleboard, ping pong tables, pool and bikes are a few of the nice touches that make it a family friendly resort. The Hoff Haus restaurant is good and convenient! If you're looking for simple charm, this is your place. It's not a New York chain hotel, just simply old time charm!

We stayed at the Alpine last year... whoa. We won't be back. The place is a dump and is in need of some serious updating. Old wiring hangs low over the driveway, the walls are paper thin, the towels & linens are worn and have holes. Need I say more? The location is nice and the lakefront property is pretty. However, check their website- you won't see a photo of the place in day light. There's a reason for that. Did you ever see the movie "Haunted Mansion"? You get the idea.

We stayed at the Happy Hollow Guest House with our dog. Plusses: --Lovely site-beautiful view of the bay from a pebble beach. --Quiet - off the main road away from the crazy Hwy 42 traffic; (no one at the main house in the same site*) --Dog friendly --Near Peninsula State Park (and golf course, if that's your thing) --Adequately clean --Decent water pressure and plenty of hot water --Typical WI "up north" summer cottage --AC and heat --Some staff at the office were very friendly and informative Minuses: --Weirdly narrow bedroom with little clearance around bed --Somewhat lumpy mattress and grungy pillows (1 set of 2) --Bottom sheet corners popped off leading to lumpy bedding during the night --Stained bathtub - didn't look clean --Tatty, flimsy towels - three sets (bath, hand, wash cloth) for two people for three days meant they never really dried out after showers in humid summer weather with no place to hang them; we wound up hanging them on hangers in the bedroom on the clothes hooks there --Some pans in kitchen looked pretty beaten-up (we weren't cooking so that wasn't an immediate drawback but if you do plan on cooking...); limited numbers of coffee mugs, glasses given that... (next item) --No dish detergent - Were the dishes clean when we got there? Had to reuse mugs with just a hot rinse which is okay for a day or two, but not much more than that --Something (mice? bats?) making noise in the ceiling at night --Some staff at the office were not friendly or informative --*IF noisy people had been at the main house, it would have been unpleasant in the guest house since they are very close to each other. Pet peeves: --An envelope for "housekeeping gratuity" was left prominently on the table despite the fact that we had no housekeeping services for the three nights of our stay and the place was not particularly well appointed to begin with. --No shampoo provided; you have to ask for it at the desk upon check in. --Website indicated only two dog friendly units; staff at check out indicated all but two were dog friendly

I fell in love with the Alpine Resort the moment we pulled into the parking lot! They have a lot of old school charm, straight out of Dirty Dancing. This has an awesome resort vibe without being all uppity and overpriced. When we walked in, we were met by some amazing old German charm in the lobby, as well as a restaurant adjacent to one side, and a bar to the other. A large sign displaying the days activities was great, and how could anyone pass on the Friday Night Dance? The front desk staff was attentive and provided top notch customer service. The rooms were good enough but not amazing. The most important thing was the beds were quite comfortable, which is pretty much the number one thing for a hotel room. Other reviews are complaining about not having cable. Seriously? You are on the shore of Door County. There is tons of stuff to do. Look out your window instead. Turn off the damn tv! The rooms had some charm, but the bathrooms were modern and nice. The resort has a private drive which is probably a quarter mile from the Egg Harbor public beach, probably the nicest beach on the bay side. The resort itself is tucked right out of downtown Egg Harbor, within walking distance, but not too busy. There are great roads, golf courses, etc all around. Perfect roads for bike riding, also. The old school charm of this place will keep us coming back. They kept the old resort vibe, while still making it a nice place to stay, and not feeling too dumpy. They also have a great balance between offering resort amenities and activities, without being pretentious. And feel free to close your eyes and imagine Patrick Swayze in a nearby cabin :) Price and location fit the bill, also.
